URBAN MEADOW
The vast wildflower meadow slope leading from White Rock Lake to this home creates a harmonious design of structure and site that provides an inner-city panorama with grand vistas to the lake. The elliptical meadow is framed by a mown path of buffalo grass. Stone steps and short walls emerge from the grass as the slope rises toward the home. The open, expansive ecosystem provides native habitat for a diverse group of birds, insects, and other wildlife supported along the nearby riparian corridor. The collection of pollen by honey bees is of particular interest to the client and their on-site bee farm. The executed design is reminiscent of the original Blackland Prairie on which Dallas exists.
