This small contemporary garden healed-back a site that had simple program requirements of privacy and useable outdoor space. The contemporary home is situated in an established and dense 1920’s neighborhood. The garden is wedged between two multi-story traditional homes and required seclusion for the residents use of the interior and exterior spaces without intrusive views from above or the side. A tall planting of bamboo helps achieve this along one side of the space, and an architectural concrete wall with a cantilevered ipé wood bench front this serving as anchors within the space. The street side approach to the home features a continually evolving view into nature through the use of native grasses and groundcovers. This transitional landscape replaces the neighborhood standard and visually static front lawn.
